Everyone you know, including yourself, have set goals and not met them. On December 31 of every year, someone you know is going to exercise more, someone you know is going to lose that 20 pounds once and for all, and someone you know is going to quit smoking. Most of them will not succeed. Why? Not because they did not have a goal, but because they did not have the correct expectation.
A goal is simply something you would like to accomplish. If you write your goal down and expand upon it effectively, it is known as a SMART goal. The acronym SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. All that means is that the goal you say you want to accomplish IS possible. So... why do so many goals, even SMART ones, go by the way side and never come to fruition? It is not because you don't want it... you do. It is not because you can't do it... you can. The reason you do not succeed in accomplishing a goal has to do with your expectation.

Federico Fellini said, "our minds can shape the way a thing will be because we act according to our expectations." We ACT according to our expectations. Buddha explained, "all that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become." SO... whether you honestly believe you can succeed is as much a determining factor in your success as actually taking the action to be successful.
If you do not believe in yourself or in your ability to do what you set out to do, do not waste your time doing it. It will not happen. Albert Einstein put it quite aptly, "insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result." If this is the fifth time you set this goal, you need to do something differently or do not expect to see a different outcome!
Here is your take-away: nothing happens without clarity. Do not jump into action without clarity. Figure out WHY you want to do what you say you want to do. If you do not have a phenomenal "why," chances are you will not see it to completion.
